VIVEKACHUDAMANI TAMIL DISCOURSE : CHAPTER 1 - SLOKA 165 to 168 - MAR 27-2015

Om Namasivaya Nama:

Praana-Maya Kosa: (Vital Air Sheath):

Sloka: 165:

Prana along with Five organs of action (Karmendriyas) constitute Pranamaya Kosa. Due to the presence of Pranamaya Kosa the body involve in activities.

Sloka 166:

The Pranamaya Kosa is not Self since it is dependent of Self itself and it is only a modification of Air.

Manomaya Kosa : (Mental Sheath):

Sloka 167:

It is the five organs of perception (Jgnanedriyas) and mind makes Manomaya Kosa, which is the sole cause for I and Mine and also make names and forms.

Sloka 168:

The Five Sense Organs act as priest of conducting Yagna/Homa who will feed the fuel of numerous desires in to the Manomaya Kosa which is the sacrificial fire. The flame raise up during the time is what our desire-full world. One should burn it off all desires within this mind itself.

In other words one sheath is superior to other and getting more closer to Self but none of these Self!

Sloka 162:

There is no liberation for man who posses mere book knowledge unless he give up the identification of body and sense organs since they are un-real.

Sloka 163:

One should not identify himself with the body just like how he/she will not identify themselves with their shadow or dream body.

Sloka 164:

Once the identification of body as Athma is removed from the mind, there is no chance of re-birth again.

Sloka 160:

A foolish man think "I am the body", a book knowledge man thinks Body and Jeeva (life), whereas a realized sage thinks "I am Brahman". This was taught in 3 different school of though (philosophies) by great gurus known as "Dwaitham by Sri Madhvacharya (1238-1317 BC/CE), Visishtaa-dwaitham by Sri Ramanujacharya (1017-1137 BC/CE) and Adwaitham by Sri Adi Sankara Bhagawath Padar (788-820 AD).

Sloka 161:

Cease to identify yourself with this body and identify yourself with Absolute Brahman and attain Supreme Peace for ever.

Sloka 157:

The man of discrimination knows that the Self is not this body and it is unique and Parama Chaithanyam.

Sloka 158:

The Atman is enduring reality and it only witness activities of the body..

Sloka 159:

Only fools will consider this body as Atman, those who think deep will identify that the man's real nature is Supreme Truth and pure consciousness itself.

Before birth it does not exist as well after death, whereas it lasts only for a short period. Since the change is constant how can this body the Self.

Sloka 156:

This body made up of organs cannot be the Self. However the body is required to realize the Self.
