YAJURVEDA
ADHYAAYO-PAAKARMA VIDHI (PROCEDURE) – SHORT METHOD
What is
Adhyaa-yopaa-karmam?
Initiation to
learn the Vedas under a genuine, competent Guru or Aacharya (Master). For Yajur
Vedi Sravana Poornima day with Sravishta Star to be considered as
the ideal day for this auspicious ritual. Those who have already learned the Vedas must
recite and respect Rishis as “Thanksgiving”. The knowledge Parampara starts
with “Information – Knowledge – Wisdom – Realising Absolute Truth as Brahman”.
All four
Vedas have their first sloka as “Veda Vakhyam” (Narrative / the Gist of
respective Veda). By chanting this Pramaanika Sloka is considered as chanting
the entire respective Veda. Kindly recite at the right juncture.
Rig Veda: Om Harihi Om - Om Agni-Meele
Purohitham Yagnasya Dheva Mruthwijam, Hothaaram Rathna Dhaathamam.
Yajur
Veda: Om Harihi Om –
Om Ishe ThwOrjwe Thwa Vaayava-Stho-paayavastha Dhevo Va: Savitha Praarpayathu sreshtathamaaya
Karmane.
Sama
Veda: Om Harihi Om –
Agna Aayaahi Veethaye GrunnanOhavyadhaathaye NihOthA Sathsibharhishi.
Adharvana
Veda: Om Harihi Om –
sanno Dhevirabheeshtaya AapO-bhavandhu PEthaye, samyOrabhi Sruvandhu Naha.
A Veda
Adhyayi must chant the following as a full, summarised Veda Padanam on this day.
I will explain everything in detail at a later stage. Now I will list that
Vedic chanting procedure for understanding purposes.
There are a total of 21 specific subjects that must be recited on this special day. There are;

among Tamil Brahmin residents in Kerala.

1 13. Prayaschitha Gayathri Japam 1008
times (Next day).
Please note that the base for all the above is the respective timely Sandhya Vandanam. Madhyahnikam is to
be performed either before Brahma Yagnam or after Kaanda Rishi Tharpanam. It is
our right to do these rituals without any hesitation because this is not for
everyone.
Considering
the current dynamic society, many of our Brahmins are forced to work for their livelihood.
Therefore, I have the following suggestions for those who are unable to perform everything
in detail as per sastra vidhi. Please note this is not Veda Pramaanam. My philosophy
is “something is better than nothing”; therefore, at least do these sincerely. You
can do either physically or mentally, or mixed, according to your convenience. Please
note this is not a shortcut method!
Make a
sincere prayer to Matha, Pitha, Guru and Easwara by saying that on this special
day I can perform my Upakarma only in a simple way. Kindly bless me and
pardon my mistakes.
Wear a Dhoti
(veshti) and put Vibhoothi or Chandhan or Kum-Kum as Thilak, then sit facing
east. Thereafter, perform the following:
1. 1. Please do or chant Sandhya Vandana
Mantras and offer a pot of pure water to Lord Soorya Narayan by chanting the Savithri
Gayathri Mantra 3 times.
2. 2. Facing East (Sun), chant 10 times “Kamo-akaarsheeth-Manyu
Akaarsheeth” Namo Namaha.
3. 3. Take a pot of water and chant “Deva-Rishi-Pithru”
devathaa thrupthyartham Yadha Sakthi Argya Jalam Tharpayaami. Kindly offer
the water (pour it in the soil or kitchen sink).
4. 4. Perform Yathnopaveetha Dhaaranam.
5. 5. Take a pot of water and chant “Samastha
Kaanda Rishi Devathaa thrupthyartham Yadha Sakthi Argya Jalam Tharpayaami”, then
pour the water as said in 3.
6. 6. Conclude this divine ritual by
saying Om Thath Sath Brahmaarpana-masthu and offer a spoon of water to
the lotus feet of your Upasana Moorthy.
7. 7. Again do physical or maanaska
Namaskarams to your parents, Acharyas and God.
