NARADA BAKTI SUTRAM - TAMIL UPANYASAM - SEP-18-2020 : Episode 31

Om Namasivaya Nama:

Narada Bakthi Suthram - Chapter 05 – Bakthi Mahima:

This chapter deals with the importance of devotion and devotees!

Sutramd 77:

Sukha-Dhuke-Chhaalaabha-Dhithyakthe Kaale Pratheekshamaanne Kshanaardhamapi Vyartham Na Neyam!

Sukha-Dhuke-Chhaalaabha-Dhithyakthe =Sukham (Pleasure), Dhukkam (Pain), Icha (Desire), Laabham (Profit) and pleasure considerations, Kaale Pratheekshamaanne = While waiting for the Jeevan to exit the body, Kshanaardhamapi Vyartham Na Neyam = Do not waste even a minute.

Meaning: Sage Narada says, do not waste time even a second without any use to self or to others, although you might have already achieved God-realization, yet keep in touch with all types of Bakthi Sastras and its supporting devotional activities. There is no exemption to a layman vs realized person, all should practice Bakthi sastras for safety purpose while waiting to die. Even though the Ghnaani (realized person) is not duty bound (mundane) yet he/she must devote their valuable time to uplift normal people that is what Sage Veda Vyasa and myself did. Due to which the current generations were blessed to receive Srimad Bhagavatham and Bakthi Soothram and many scriptures from innumerable realized people.

Every day, think of glories of God and live with God, eat with God, roam around with God, sleep with God. Ultimately, there is no detachment from God even a second.

Sutramd 78:

Ahimsa-Sathya-Soucha-Dhaya-Sthikhyaadi Chaarithryaani Paripaalaneeyaani!

Ahimsa-Sathya-Soucha-Dhaya-Sthikhyaadi = Ahimsa, Sathyam, Soucham, Dhaya and Aasthikhyam Chaarithryaani Paripaalaneeyaani = These Sadhaachaarams and noble activities must be practised.

Meaning: When even casual people are supposed to follow these Sadhaachaarams where is the question of realized people not following? A Saadhaka (Seeker) should follow Sadhaachaarams for own welfare and progress, at the same time a Sadhyan (Realized) must follow for the same of himself/herself and the general public. Devotees are not allowed to do nonsense with an expectation that at the time of death God will eventually give them Moksham (liberation) by quoting all demons as an example. As long as a devotee, even the realized ones, having the body consciousness must be carefully practised all Sadhaachaaranushtaanm.

Ahimsa = Not to hurt any living being by word, mind or action, Sathyam = Seeing ever pervading Brahman in everything equally, Saucham =  Action without any expectation, Dhaya = Having compassion towards all suffering people, Aasthikhyam = Faith in Guru vachanam and sasthra grantha (scriptures) vachanam (instructions) as prescribed and authorized by the Vedas. All these virtuous must be followed by all types of human beings irrespective of their caste and creed.

Sutramd 79:

Sarvadha Sarva Bhaavena Nischinthaihi Bhagavaaneva Bhajaneeyaha!

Sarvadha = Always, Sarva Bhaavena = All types of care and aspects, Nischinthaihi = Detaching from all other thoughts, Bhagavaaneva = God alone, Bhajaneeyaha = Pray.

Meaning: A true devotee must give up all other unwanted activities and thoughts and concentrate fully only on God and his/her glories. The greatest sage Sri Veda Vyaasa says that after realizing and writing various scriptures I have realized that anything is nothing other than merging with Supreme Brahman Lord Mahavishnu.

NARADA BAKTI SUTRAM - TAMIL UPANYASAM - SEP-11-2020 : Episode 30

 Om Namasivaya Nama:

Narada Bakthi Suthram - Chapter 05 – Bakthi Mahima:

This chapter deals with the importance of devotion and devotees!

Sutram 75:

Baahulya-avakaasathwaadh Aniyathathwaachha!

Baahulya-avakaasathwaadh = The right to differ while in an argument, Theshu = The conclusion may not have authenticity because it depends upon the skills of the arguer.

Meaning: Usually the arguments will have no end until the arguer tries to win over the debate or establish his/her understanding about a subject, that conclusion or conviction may not have substances, because it depends upon the arguer's arguing skills and knowledge. Sometime it may be true and good but most of the time it is not since the arguer is not a genuine spiritual master. Therefore, Sage Narada strongly recommends that spiritual seekers should avoid any type of arguments whether it is good or bad. The seeker may not have profound knowledge on the subject but he/she may be dragged into misunderstanding which will spoil their success or hinder spiritual growth.

Sutram 76:

Bakthi saSthraani Mananeeyaani, Thadh-bhodhaka-Karmaani Karaneeyaani!

Bakthi saSthraani  = Doctrines of devotion (Bakthi), Mananeeyaani = Must byheart or accept, Thadh-bhodhaka Karmaani = The works that promote and nourish the devotion should be, Karneeyaani = Must act or uphold.

Meaning: The seeker must study and understand the values and concepts of Bakthi saStraas (spiritual texts) also one must act on the advice given in the text and masters' must be practised which can enhance the present understanding about devotional practices. Moreover, one must stay away from any acts that may ruin or destroy spiritual convictions.

The seeker or any type of devotee must spend their valuable time to understand more about Bakthi saStram and show laziness to know about the opposite route. The spiritual devotee must practice Dhamanam, Sathyam, samam, Dhamam. He/She should try to learn more about their personal God's Avatar (birth), Karma (acts) and Glories (gunaas). They must listen, propagate and meditate upon God. The devotee must do everything with a total surrendering attitude towards God.

There are so many types of thieves in and around us to hinder our progress in the spiritual path. Therefore, be careful of all these thieves (hereditary and acquired VaaSanaas).

NARADA BAKTI SUTRAM - TAMIL UPANYASAM - SEP-04-2020 : Episode 29

Om Namasivaya Nama:

Narada Bakthi Suthram - Chapter 05 – Bakthi Mahima:

This chapter deals with the importance of devotion and devotees!

Sutram 72:

Naasthi Theshu Jaathi-Vidhya-Roopa-Kula-Dhana-Kriyaadhi Bhedhaha!

Naasthi = Not applicable or Nil, Theshu = Among Eakantha Bakthaas or to become a true devotee, Jaathi-Vidhya-Roopa-Kula-Dhana-Kriyaadhi = Jaathi (caste), Vidhya (Education), Roopa (Beauty/Colour), Kula (Clan/Race), Dhana (Wealth), Kriya (Occupation/Actions) etc...

Meaning: To become a true devotee (Eakantha Bakthi), no qualifications are required according to Sage Narada as well as God himself. However, the devotee must possess only sheer innocent and Aathma samarpana devotion towards God. Likewise, discipline (Aachaarams) or age does also not matter. Satsangam (the company of wise people) will highly support and help in realizing this truth. Hundreds of examples quoted in Srimadh Bhagavatham and other Puranic divine events. In other words, such true devotees can take birth in any families, parents should make such requests to God before entering into Garbhadhaana Kriya or if already born then create such an environment for the children to become a close devotee of God.

Sutram 73:

Yathasthadheeyaaha!

Yatha = Why because Thadheeyaaha = They belong to God

Meaning: Why there are no conditions attached to true devotees such as caste and other status is because they belong to God himself. No pre-requisite qualifications are needed for God to chose or grab one person as his devotees. God sees only their true devotion to shower his grace on them. You may wonder why so many Sastras, Rules and Regulations and Puranas etc.. keep giving conditions to become a devotee is only to uplift or raise humans from animal and demonic nature. So, now the path is cent per cent clear to worship God. Fortunately, following all prescribed formalities by the Vedas can only add value to or supplement the devotional activities. That is the benefits and concept of spiritual activities.

One must know that this universe and its belongings all belong to God only. Therefore, if there is no choice or survival the living beings will eventually fall into God's protection, this is the law of nature. Whether we pray to God or not, God will not leave us from his fold because we are his wealth! God will keep giving us more and more chances to realize the truth. That does not mean that we have to take advantage of the soft nature of God.

Sutram 74:

Vadho Naava-lambyaaha!

Vaadha =  Arguments or debates, Na-Avalambyaaha = Do not depend.

Meaning: As a spiritual seeker, one should not enter into arguments with anyone especially those who do not support your principles or faith. At any situation, the seeker must avoid disputation with others. However, samvadham (clarifications with scholars) may not pull us down. At the same time once the devotee becomes God's own (by realization) there will be no need for arguments anyway! Arguments by nature are not truthful, it only race the ego and try to establish what he/she is saying is correct. The heart of every human being has a way to realize God that is none other than simple bhakti (devotion), to practice Bakthi Yogam all we need is a Guru and Bakthi Sastraas such as this. This is the first and final word for a true devotee. Once he/she convinced about it, there is no need to spend even a minute on others doctrines. Nothing is a bigger and easiest method than Bakthi Yogam. Just stay away from arguments on account of religious and other spiritual paths.

NARADA BAKTI SUTRAM - TAMIL UPANYASAM - AUG-28-2020 : Episode 28

 Om Namasivaya Nama:

Narada Bakthi Suthram - Chapter 05 – Bakthi Mahima:

This chapter deals with the importance of devotion and devotees!

Sutram 69:

Threethi Kurvanthi Threerthani, Sukarmee Kurvanthi Karmaani, Sachhasthree Kurvanthi Saastraani!

Threethi Kurvanthi Threerthani = They (Mukhya Bhakthars) turn the ordinary bathing places into sacred places of purification, Sukarmee Kurvanthi Karmaani = Ordinary acts into pious deeds, Sachhasthree Kurvanthi Saastraani = Words of instructions into holy text (sastras).

Meaning: Sage Narada says that the Mukhya Bakthaas are so pure hence they purify the normal water into holy water just by touching or taking bath in it. Likewise, whatever work they do the rewards of the acts and the way of doing itself become purest deeds. Not only that their words of instruction will become holy text as Sastras. There is a reason for all these to happen because they adore God in them and they are walking Gods on this earth. Bagwan Sri Krishna mentioned the same to Sage Veda Vyaasa that wisemen are the Threetham (purified). God's idols and established holy rivers or water resources all take time to purify a person, whereas my greatest devotee's (Mukhya Bakthaas) one look on a person is enough to purity that object, such as the power of Parabakthas. Nobel devotees (Eakantha Bakthaas) Achaara Anushtaanam becomes the source or foundation for Dharma. Parabakthaa's experience is the witness for this claim.

Sutram 70:

Thanmayaa!

Thanmayaa = Absorbed by God and vice versa.

Meaning: They are (Eakantha Bhaktas) full of Godhood and Godly. That is the reason why they could transform the impure into purity by their association. To make everything pure one must have the presence of the grace of God. These Eakantha devotees are God's moving forces, wherever they go they will purity things in and around them.

Sutram 71:

Modhanthe Pitharo, Nruthyanthi Devathaaha, Sanaadhaacheyam Bhoorbhavathi!

Modhanthe Pitharo = Ancestors (manes) are delighted with them, Nruthyanthi Devathaaha = Gods dance with joy, Sanaadhaacheyam Bhoorbhavathi = The Earth is happy with their existence.

Meaning: When a devotee (Mukhya Bhakta/Para Baktha/Eakantha Baktha) becomes or take birth in a family, the Pithrus (living as well as ancestors) of that family will be delighted and shower blessings on them at the same time the Devataas (Divine/celestial personalities) will dance with joy. Moreover, the earth will be blessed due to his/her holiness and carry them on Her (Earth) head. Mother Earth will be sanctified due to their presence and bow down to them being a Dharmic Para Baktha.

Usually, every human being is endowed with inherited five unavoidable debts (Pancha Rinaas). They have to fulfil and get rid of these debts through various hard work. These debts are of Devas, Rishis, Bhoothaas, Humans and Pithrus. In casual mode, it will take innumerable births to get rid of these debts, whereas when a devotee becomes Eakantha Devotee (Totally surrender to God), from that minute he/she is relieved from all such debts and freed because of the devotee's full surrender (Aathma Samarpanam).

Mother Earth becoming impure and restless only because of Sinners, Adharmees and lack of Para Bakthaas, whereas, the birth of a Para Baktha can change the situation and Mother Earth become divine and good things will be experienced by the dwellers of Earth!.

NARADA BAKTI SUTRAM - TAMIL UPANYASAM - AUG-21-2020 : Episode 27

 Om Namasivaya Nama:

Narada Bakthi Suthram - Chapter 04 – Bakthi Lakshanam:

Sutram 66:

Thri-roopa Bhamgapoorvakam Nithya-dhaasa Nithyakantha Bhajanaathmakam Prema Kaaryam Premaiva Kaaryam!

Thri-roopa Bhamgapoorvakam = One must surpass or give up the acts of three types of Bakthi, Nithya-dhaasa Nithyakantha Bhajanaathmakam = And adopt devotion like an eternal servant or eternal wife,  Prema Kaaryam = do with love and affection, Premaiva Kaaryam = depend only the pure innocent love.

Meaning: The three-dimensional love must be renounced, (they are under the group of Gauna Bakthi = Sathwa/Uthama/Jignaasu Bakthi, Rajas/Madhyama/Arthaarthi Bakthi, Thamas/Praakrutha/Aarthi Bakthi), and adopt the serving mindset of an eternal servant or eternal wife. Both are 100% committed to their Swamis and don't hold anything in them as their own. They are fully surrendered to their master, such an attitude towards God is considered as Niraakaara Bakthi or Ghnaana Bakthi. This should be the goal of true devotees known as Para-Bakthan.

Such devotees quickly merged into God just like a worm is pulled by the flow of water into a river. The devotee will be submerged into God without any specific efforts because of total surrendering. This devotee is a permanent relative of God and God loves him/her beyond estimations. Unless one does Aathma Samarpanam he or she can't be considered as eternal servant or wife.

Therefore, every devotee must earn the love of God yes only love of God nothing other than that!

Fourth Chapter completed here: Hare Krishna!

Narada Bakthi Suthram - Chapter 05 – Bakthi Mahima:

This chapter deals with the importance of devotion and devotees!

Sutram 67:

Baktha Eakandhino Mukhyaaha!

Baktha = Devotees, Eakandhino = A non-dual attachment, Mukhyaaha = Important.

Meaning:  Devotees who are exclusively attached to God are his best of devotees. God always think of them likewise devotees always think of God. Both of them are mutually and eternally connected. After developing this connection it will never break the bond and both of them lives in oneness!.

Those who attained Godhood are considered to be Mukhya Bakthaas. This Mukhya Bakthaas fall under fourth division of devotees. They have seen God in person and interacted with him/her.

Sutram 68:

Khandaavarodha-Romaanjaa-srubhihi Parasparam Lapamaanaaha Paavayandhi Kulaani Prithiveem Cha!

Khandaavarodha-Romaanjaa-srubhihi = Struggle in talking or explaining, thrilled, goose-bumped, tears rolled out of eyes, Parasparam = each other, Lapamaanaaha = talking to another, Paavayandhi = Purifies, Kulaani = the entire clan, Prithiveem Cha = and this earth or wherever they lived.

Meaning: Whenever and wherever they hear or see their God's glories being heard or seen, they get thrilled and goose-bumped, moreover they can't converse the feeling they are undergoing with others because no words will come out of their throat since it will be choked. That is the type of feeling Mukhya Bakthas are experiencing! We are fortunate to take birth in Bharata Varsham, imagine, how many innumerable such Mukhya Baktaas took birth in this holy land and cherished the glories of God. If I have to write at-least 1000+ such devotees can be referred. In fact, I am losing control of my fingers while typing this narration.

Such devotees purify their clan (family), liberate their Pithrus, the land where they lived, the place they visit, the people who interacted with them all got transformed their life. Such devotees are rare and if anyone comes across them in their life are the luckiest in this earth. That is the greatness of a genuine Mukhya Bakthaas.

NARADA BAKTI SUTRAM - TAMIL UPANYASAM - AUG-14-2020 : Episode 26

 Om Namasivaya Nama:

Narada Bakthi Suthram - Chapter 04 – Bakthi Lakshanam:

Sutram 64:

Abhimaana-DhamBhadhikam Thyaajyam!

Abhimaana = Pride, DhamBhadhikam = Vanity and other immoral activities, Thyaajyam = Must give up / renounced.

Meaning: Pride, Vanity and other types of immoral activities are part and parcel of our inborn qualities. If one gets a chance it will immediately show up, therefore, one must be very careful to stay away from the attack of these enemies. Pride comes along with education, wealth, popularity etc and Vanity arise out of false prestige. Unless the seeker/devotees completely eradicate these two important hidden enemies it is difficult to progress in spiritual life. These qualities are the inherited properties of demonic nature moreover, unrighteousness, limited spiritual knowledge, pride, anger, rough talk, non-discriminative nature are also considered as demonic characters. If any of the devotees/seekers are falling into these qualities he/she should realize that the demonic qualities are overruling them!

God loves those devotees who are free from pride such as "I am born in a royal class family, I know to do Thapas, I am white skin, I belong to one of the most popular Asram, I am a Brahmin" etc. If one happens to get birth as well as a chance to practice spiritual acts, he/she must be ever thankful to God and be submissive so that one can be a relative of God.

Sutram 65:

Thadharpithaakhilaachaaraha San Kaam-Krodhaabhimaanadhikam Thasmin-nneva Karaneeyam!

Thadharpithaakhilaachaaraha San = All acts should be offered to God even the feelings such as Kaam-Krodhaabhimaanadhikam = Desires, Anger and Pride etc Thasmin-nneva = Upon Him only (God), Karaneeyam = Entertained with reference to Him (God).

Meaning: Deposit all actions and its rewards irrespective of its nature to God alone (Good or Bad). Whenever one gets under the influence of Kama-Krodha and Pride that too even direct towards God and be free from ownership. Here, sage Narada says not only surrender your Karma Rewards (Actions) but also Karma itself. When the seeker direct all-natural or inherited feelings towards God, that itself take the form of Bakthi (Devotion). Converting all inherited six hidden enemies into friends is the goal of Bakthi Yogam (Spiritual devotional acts). It is difficult to curb them, therefore it is better to change its direction towards God who is capable of taking care of its adverse effects. Be proud of being a genuine devotee and able to serve God and Godmen. In case one is unable to hold his/her mind in God, then the easy way to conducting activities is do your Karma without expectations of its rewards.

Every type of living beings reached God irrespective of their livelihood and nature whether through Bakthi or Relation or Kaama or Anger or Revenge or Fear or Love (Example Sages, Yadhavaas, Gopikaas, Sisupaalakaas, vice kings, Kamsa and Pandavaas). Therefore, some sort of refuge must be made with God (Lord Sri Krishna).

NARADA BAKTI SUTRAM - TAMIL UPANYASAM - AUG-07-2020 : Episode 25

 Om Namasivaya Nama:

Narada Bakthi Suthram - Chapter 04 – Bakthi Lakshanam:

Sutram 60:

Santhiroopaath Paramaanandaroopaachha!

Santhiroopaath = It is a Natural Peace, Paramaanandaroopaachha = And, a Nature of perfect bliss.

Meaning: Bakthi is easy to practice because it is a natural peace and perfect bliss. There is no complication nor rules and regulations to practice Bakthi. If God likes it, that is the end.

Sutram 61:

Lokahaanow Chintha Na Kaaryaa, Nivedhithmaloka Veda seelathwaathu!

Lokahaanow = Feeling that material duties may get disrupted, Chintha = Thinking about, Na Kaaryaa = No need to think and worry about it, Nivedhithmaloka Veda Seelathwaathu = Upon submitting or surrendering self, material duties and spiritual activities.

Meaning: A devotee need not panic or worry about by submitting self, material and spiritual (ritualistic rites) duties to the lotus feet of God. Since it is of the nature of peace and of the nature of bliss why should a devotee worry about in and around himself/herself? Just simply surrender all good, bad, material, spiritual, ritual activities to God and free oneself by holding on to genuine sheer devotion (Bakthi).

Lord Krishna once said in the Gita that I will take care of the comforts of true devotees. This was proved through in many incidents. Not only these incidents were mentioned in the Puranas but also, our own ancestors witnessed many such events that took place in the recent past. (Example Sant Tukaram, Gauranga, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Chembai Vaidhyanath Bhagavathar, Poonthanam, Narayana Battathiri, Kuroor Amma etc...). Maha Bali Chakravarthy was another example quoted in the Bhagavatham. Lord Vaamana took all his properties, rewards of good and bad deeds along with his royal comforts and send him to Suthala Loka and stood as a watchman to his palace.

Anyone who surrender everything to God, the God himself will take care of his/her and their family members too. All one needs is sheer innocent Bakthi!

Sutram 62:

Na Thadha Sidhow Loka Vyavaharo Heyaha, Kinthu Bhalathyaagaha Thadhsadhanam Cha Kaaryameva!

Na Thadha Sidhow = Until one achieves the total surrender (Aathma Nivedhanam) to the God, Loka Vyavaharo = Material activities, Na Heyaha = not renounceable, Kinthu = Whereas, Phalathyaagaha = Rejecting the rewards of activities, Thadhsadhanam Cha = Practice to renounce the benefits of activities, Kaaryameva = Will become the reason or cause.

Meaning: Sage Narada Says, so long as this True Bakthi is not achieved, the ordinary material way of life should not be given up, at the same time, one should thrive to give up (Renounce) the desires and the reward of its actions. The devotee must strictly practice as to how to give up the ego-boosting tendencies and actions so that the Bakthi will grow in him/her. In other words, renouncing, the practice should not get stopped, start renouncing from the small objects to big ones over a period. For a family person, it is not easy to renounce everything, therefore avoid expectations while doing duties and submit the rewards to God.

God says, both Virakthan (Renouncer) and Bakthan (Devotee) must work hard to sustain a decent life since it is his/her basic duty because the pure body (Sareera) is very important to do Aathma Vichaara (Self Meditator) that will eventually lead to Mokha (Liberation).

The person who does not follow the protocols given in the Vedas to be considered as an ignorant and an addict to the senses (non-ascetic). He/She will eventually fall into all types of bad Karmas that will make him/her a permanent member of transmigration (Samsara Dukham) system. Do only what is said in the Vedas and handover the rewards to God (Please note same God will give you back with his blessings on it because God is not interested in material things except our Bakthi Bhaava).

Vedas directed in its Karma Kanda that the person who does as prescribed in the Vedas will be rewarded is only an advertisement! This is basically to create an interest among people to do good things in life.

Therefore, until one achieves Aathma Samarpana status, it is better to do good work and handover the benefits to God.

WHO IS BRAHMIN?

Om Namasivaya Nama:

Dear Reader,

I would like to present another article for your knowledge. I am sure this will help in understanding who is Brahmin or Brahmanan.

Sivoham
Venky

---------------------------

Who is Brahmanan / Brahmin?

A person, after realizing the Absolute Brahman, continue to live in the path of Brahma Ghyaan (Knowledge of Brahman or Brahmanyam or Brahmanathwam) until the mortal body perishes. He must live within that wisdom of Brahman – which is self-illuminate, self-born, ever pervading, limitless, infinite, exists forever etc.…

This Brahmanathwam is achieved in two ways, they are known as “Aantharikan” and “Baahikan”. A male child born in a Brahmin family through a Vaideeha Brahmanan’s Rethas/Bheejam (Sperm) to a preferably Brahmin woman, such person is known as Aantharikan or Vaideeka Brahmanan. This option is also known as Janmasidha Brahmanathwam. Whereas, a male child born to anybody but due to his sheer penance or spiritual practices, attaining the knowledge of Brahman will become Baahikan or Dhaiveeka Brahmanan. In other words, any spiritually accomplished person will be a Brahmin! Brahmins are Devathas in this Earth.

To sustain and flourish the Brahmanathwam, one must follow certain strict Vaideeha Samskaraas, so that the Beejam will sprout and grow like a big tree. Those important Vaideeha Samskaras are five in numbers and they are known as “Pancha Naimithika Kriyaas” (Five inherited duties) viz. Sroutham, Smartham, Vihitham, Sadhaachaaram and Nithya Karmanushtaanam. Unless the referred Brahmin continue to perform these five Kriyas he can’t be a genuine Brahmin. Although, by birth, there is a Brahmanathwam exists in this person inherited through his ancestors’ DNA, yet he must further nurture it, failing to this, in the long run eventually he will lose his Brahmin-hood to just a namesake Brahmin!

Let me briefly explain those five Kriyas to be performed:

Sroutham: A Brahmin must study holy and religious scriptures known as Sruthi-Smruthi-Puranaas-Ithihaasa-Dharma Sastras etc. He must study under a competent Guru and complete the studies within the prescribed time under Guru-Kula system. After learning the scriptures and its instructions, he must practice those principles in his practical life. He can also teach others and give counselling to the needy including governments and rulers.

Smartham: Means the person believes in God and his/her omnipresence. Basically, he will be a devotee of God and conducts Vaideeha-Dhaiveeha kriyas to his best of knowledge in the highest amount of faith in the rituals.

Vihitham: He who acts as per the instructions given by the Vedas. Whatever said in the Vedas are to be considered as virtues and lead a righteous life. Live with full satisfaction and show no greed for anything. Vihitham means “allowed”. In other words, he must know the do’s and don’ts to lead a humble pious life.

Sadhaachaaram: One who strictly follow the Aachara-Anushtanam (Discipline and Best Practices). Among the many Aacharaas following Dharma (Righteous) is the supreme most. Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam says “Aachara Prathamo Dharma” (Aachara is first among all Dharmaas). Among many Dharmas, Swadharma is very important to know and follow. Without knowing Swadharma (one’s own hereditary duties practised by ancestors in the family) accepting or adopting or embracing other’s Dharma is prohibited as well as denounced. The one who does not follow his own Dharma but embracing others’ Dharma will be considered as misbehaved, unworthy and get no salvation to his life (Aathma). God had a reason for a person to be born in that family…if anyone tries to confuse nature’s will then it is considered as a big mistake and face the wrath of nature. Here I am taking the example of religious conversions.

Nithya Karmanushtaanam: Though there are plenty of Karmas (Actions) in one’s life. However, all of them will fall under one roof called Pancha Yathnaas. It is also known as Pancha Rinam (Five inherited subtle debts). They are known as Deva Yagnam, Pithru Yagnam, Bhootha Yagnam, Rishi Yagnam and Athidhi/Manushya Yagnam. Besides, these Thrikaala Sandhya Vandanam (Before Sunrise, Mid noon, Before Sunset) followed by Samidha Dhana Homam for Brahmacharis and Oupasanam Homam for a married couple during the late evening. Thereafter, Upasana / Ishta Devatha Pooja to be conducted. A Brahmin also allowed doing Uncha Vruthi (one of the highest class of activity) which is Biksha Yachanam i.e. requesting householders to offer him Dhana-Dhanyam (food grains). Those collected items to be used for self as well as needy’s hunger. Whatever prescribed duties of a Brahmin must be conducted with full faith and respects. Teach others, conduct Vaideeha Kriyas for others, accept Dhaanam (offerings given by others). These are some of the daily best practices for a Brahmin’s life.

Brahmmam means Ghyaan (True Knowledge). Although the Brahmmam is undefinable yet the great sages have given some understanding about Brahmman. It is also considered a network of knowledge. A Brahmin must surrender to this Brahmman and continue his life until the Aathma exit this mortal body. A Brahmin, Manasa-Vacha-Karmana should not get involved in doing Ahimsa to any beings at the same time uphold righteousness and raise voice whenever the righteousness gets a hammering from others.

Just because he was born in the brahmin family does not guarantee his Brahma Thejass would continue to be with him till his death. Being a blessed person by taking birth in a Brahmin family one should strive hard to nurture and protect it from every harmful situation so that he can claim his Brahmin hood status. It is not an easy task, but he must do as many austerities as possible.

Brahmmam has innumerable names and forms. However, all these derived from two fundamental segments called Naama Cha Roopa (Name and Form). Among all the names, the Pranava Mantra OM represent as head of Naama and Easwara (Bhagavan) as Roopa (Form). This Easwara swaroopam further classifieds into four parts and named them as Varna and off late in practical life it is referred to as Jaathi (Caste). The first portion between head and neck is called Brahmana Thejas, shoulders and hip is called Kshathriya Thejas, waist and legs are called Vaisya Thejas and finally, the feet are called Soodra Thejas – as referred in the Purusha Sooktham. I would like to stress a point here on account of Soodra Thejas. It is not exactly Soodra, in fact, the original name is Soothiran means the Planning Engineer. In the recent past, some crooked people with vested interest made this segment of people as untouchable and low class. That was a shameful act whoever involved in it. In Veda, there is a definition for Soothiran as “Sucham Dhraavayandhi Ethi Soodrah”, this means the person who quenches the sorrows of the needy. This segment of people sacrificed all their comforts and worked throughout life for the welfare of higher authorities such as Vaisya to Brahmana. At the same time, those three higher class people took advantage of the simplicity maintained by the Soodraas. God is not to be blamed for this act! who do you think God would love most? naturally the Soodraas, that is why God gave them his feet’s. They are naturally sacrificed and lived like slaves. We all know whatever type of pooja we do, all offerings are offered only to the lotus feet of God. The Veda says only through sacrifice (renounce/give up) one can attain liberation (Moksha). Whereas, without doing any specific austerities this segment of people eventually merges in God due to their simplicity and devoted lifestyle! One should not forget that human beings’ success is completely depending on the foundation segment of people. In our body, all parts are important likewise all types of people also important in society. Every person was given an opportunity to cleanse their impurities and sin through human birth at a different level of segment. This is only an allotment hence hereafter it is the responsibility of the individual to fix a mechanism that suits the person to elevate himself/herself!

This same concept can be interpreted in another way. For the upliftment of human society, we should have four important resources. They are 1. Knowledge Skills, 2. Administration Skills, 3. Business Skills, 4. Labor Skills. In this sequence, the Brahmin is the resources of Knowledge. Therefore, a Brahmin’s primary duty is to acquire knowledge and practice knowledge-based skills. The learned knowledge can be used for his own benefit as well as society’s welfare.

Brahmin’s other important Karma is to accept “offerings” (Dhaan) from the giver. There is no one better than a Brahmin to accept offerings for remedy purpose. As you know when you accept an offer given by another person, I am sure, there could be a reason or a purpose behind it. When you accept things from others you are also accepting their sin. The giver gets Punya (holy credits/merits) and the receiver gets Paapa (demerits/sin). There are only two authorities who can accept other’s sin. They are God and the other one is a Vaideeha Brahmin. Whatever offerings are given to a competent Brahmin that is as good as the offerings given to God in person. After accepting the Dhaan, the receiver must bless the giver. The blessings will have its effects only when the giver has Punya in his account otherwise no effect will be there, this is just like accounting principles. Therefore, when a Brahmin does his Sandhya Vandana Nithya Karma and Gayathri Upanasa he can nullify the sin effects as well as gain more Punya for accepting Dhaan.  The receiver must show full satisfaction and not to crib and pinpoints defects of the received objects. An unworthy Brahmin is not allowed to accept offerings. The Giver and the receiver will not get the desired results. Identifying the right genuine Brahmin and seek his blessings are a must for the welfare of society.

A Brahmin should never ever get involved in Himsa Karma by Manasa-Vacha-Karmana nor he should have any type of relationship/friendship with such people (Himsaloo). In Kali Yuga (Black Era) it is very difficult to practice and be a perfect Brahmin! However, one must try his level best to accommodate as much as possible. Being Kali Yuga there are exceptions and discounts in their rituals which I don’t need to elaborate here because the purpose of this article will be defeated.  In this Universe, there is no knowledge bigger than acquiring Brahma Vidhya. Therefore, a Brahmin must try his best to gather such Vedic knowledge and practice it to enrich the benefits.

Once upon a time, there were some group of people who dedicated their life exclusively to gain this precious knowledge. They isolated themselves from the crowd as a shield from getting spoiled by another way of life, such people are called “Brahmins”. They don’t hate anyone, they secluded from the other communities for self-guarding so that there will be no interruption on their austerities. Everyone cannot live like a Brahmin, there are strict guidelines to be followed. Brahmins never hate anyone but fond of wisemen from the beginning of the human era. There is say “Brahmana Bho-Jana Priya”, means Brahmins highly respect the wisemen. The modern crooks narrated this noble idea to capitalize on their selfish motives as Brahmins divided touchable and untouchable category of people in the society. Of-course, some ill-fated Brahmins might have behaved in such a low-class manner. Now, they are undergoing the punishment given by nature and God. Those genuine Brahmins may be called upon in case of any difficult situation to be handled by others. They would come and perform the right ritual to remove the misgivings and bless the needy. Whereas in today’s life anyone who attained Brahma Ghyanam (True Knowledge which is Brahma Sathyam Jagath Mithya!) can become a Brahmin. The only difference in gaining this knowledge is that a person who was born to a hereditary Brahmin family through a pious would easily acquire Brahma Vidhya as compare to others. The environment is also suitable for him to do so because the family follows austerities.

In future, this Brahmanyam will be only on the historical record because we will not find many people following these strict guidelines of a Brahmin. Moreover, by doing so, they won’t be able to sustain their family. Ideally, the rulers or government should take care of them so that they can concentrate on the welfare of the public. Today’s situation is different due to democratic and secularistic government policies in place. Never mind, no one can snatch your Brahmin DNA as long as you live perfectly within your limits. If a Brahmin follows his Vedic lifestyle nothing to worry especially the society. God is the master and ruler of all, that God has entrusted the responsibilities on Brahmin’s shoulders. So, Brahmins are directly answerable God. If a Brahmin suffers, there is no doubt neither the society nor the countries will prosper. All demons and wrongdoers are afraid of Brahmin’s power.

A Brahmin’s biggest enemy is his uncontrollable sexual urge and anger. His biggest weapon is curse and satisfaction should be his biggest close friend.

In today’s life, a Brahmin is unable to conduct his duties and lose faith in his ancestor’s activities are mainly due to his Aathma’s previous life bad karma. Knowing this, one should try to evaluate the situation and swim against all types of odds by doing good as an order of Vedic Sages and God. Since Brahmins are the head among human beings they should not wait for other’s appreciations or certificates. Simply perform your duty without any expectations, don’t forget, you are the reservoir of all true knowledge, the direct representative of God and spokesperson of God! The only issue here is that you must keep up the standard of Brahmin-hood.

Brahmins had an Aseervaada Mantram referring to Vasudaiva Kutumba Mangala Vaakhyam known as “Loka Samastha Sukhino Bhavanthu”. In ancient times this Vakhyam was exclusively narrated by Brahmins only. Whereas, nowadays in all spiritual functions every Hindu/Bharateeya started saying it as part of worship. In fact, only a true Brahmin will be able to say this Aseervadham wholeheartedly because of his Gayathri Upasana during Thri-Kaala Sandhya Vandhanam. Every true Brahmins can absorb the sins committed by others and burn it off through their Upasana. That is why he could be the most eligible person to bless the world. One needs a big heart to say this Vakhyam. People commit so many types of sins and part of that sin is given to Brahmins as parihara dhaanam (Offerings for remedy). Brahmins are knowingly accepting that sin with their both hands. Who will accept other’s sin except for God and Brahmins? That is why Brahmins are known as Devathas of earth. Don’t you think, it is everyone’s responsibility to sustain Brahmin’s life and his Bheejam?

At present, some of the Brahmins who still follow whatever said in the Sanathana Dharma Sastra, due to which we could retain our Veda-Vendantha-Mantra rituals. However, time and environment are mocking them often. Whoever can do whatever they want! but a true Brahmin cannot disobey his ancestors and God’s instructions. Even if he tries to avoid, his mano dharmam (inner consciousness) will not allow for a longer period because his DNA is still belonging to his ritualistic ancestors! We all know that the DNA can get depleted over a period, therefore be careful, it may not stay forever due to unacceptable way of living style. If a true Brahmin exists, then all Vedic rituals will be alive otherwise everything will disappear from this earth. The remedy is very important to solve an eternal problem and Brahmins are the custodians of that knowledge.

After knowing so much about Brahmins, one will conclude that Brahmins are the elder brothers of all human beings, their female born are elder sisters too. Whenever youngsters face with problems they have the right to approach elders and find suitable solutions as a remedy. At the same time, if elders are having a problem then they must directly deal with God. Now, this system is also getting changed because everyone knows many things that only Brahmins use to know. I would say hereditary knowledge is still safe and superior to acquired knowledge from open sources.

The Universal Supreme Power lives through various Gods and Goddesses, the Gods are living in Vedas and the Vedas lives in the tongues of Brahmins. It is hard to deny this truth.

Who or what should be the close friend of a Brahmin?

Brahma Ghyanam (True Knowledge), Kshama (Patience), Sam-thrupthi (Satisfaction), Suseelam (Good Conducts), Dhaanam (Accepting offerings), Sadh-Upadesam (Wise-advises), Aachara Anushtanam (Vedic duties), Saucham (Maintain purity), Ahimsa (non-violence), Dhushta Jana Visargam (Staying away from bad people in all respects), Theerthadan (Pilgrimage), Gayathri Upasana (Worship Gayathri Devi), Pasu Samrakshanam (taking care of domestic animals), Paithruka Samskaras (Respect and maintain ancestral rituals), Dharma Samrakshanam (Uphold righteousness), Bagawat Chhinna Dhaaranam (Wearing symbols or ticks of personal God), Upaveetham (Sacred Thread), Sikhi (Hair Tilt), Arghya Jala Pathram / Pancha Pathram (Sacred pot), Veda Grandhas (Vedic Scriptures), Eka Baava (Simplicity), Japa Maala (Rosery), Dhaya (Compassion), Easwara Viswas (Faith in God), Ahaara Sudhi (Pure freshly made vegetarian food) and Thrikaala Sandhya Vandanam (Worshiping Sandhya Devi at cusps).

In this Earth, it is rare to get a human birth, that too becoming a male child (due to X Chromosome, in Sanathana Dharma females are part of males hence no special mention!). Even that birth happens to be in an auspicious Brahmin family is much more adorable. One becoming Brahma Ghyaani and attain liberation (Moksha) is anytime worthy. No Brahmin should waste this great opportunity.

May be some critics may raise an inappropriate concern on this article pinpointing that I am trying to divide humans and seeing them as high and low class. I am sure you are wrong, not me! kindly note that is not my intention. I just thought of picking up this subject and elaborate it so that everyone can becoming a true good Brahmin! One truth to be accepted that in this Earth from time immemorial to date there is always three-level classes existed viz high-middle-lower. This unborn classification is not made by me, it is there from the beginning of our life and it will be there irrespective of the civilizations! I would like to stress a few examples to justify my approach to the high to the low concept so that one can stay away from misunderstanding me. Everywhere there is a rich and poor, up-countries and poor countries, trees, vegetables, animals, rivers, seas whatnot… everything in this world has a higher and lower class. Therefore, need not hesitate or shy away from mentioning that Brahmin-hood is somewhat a better class than non-brahmin-hood. Everyone must try their best to become a Brahmin as Savarni and ignore the confusing concept of Jathi Vyavastha (caste system). The Sastra says “Janmana Jaayathe Soodrah Karma Dwija Uchyathe” every human by birth is a Soodran but he/she can become a Brahmin by doing wise things in life (i.e. grow from bottom to top ladder). If a person took birth in a Brahmin family and he is not performing austerities prescribed by the Sastras, then automatically his Brahmin-hood will be disappeared and become a non-Brahmin in the society as well as in Brahmana Samooham. There are so many cases where Brahmana Samooham has denounced the Brahmin-hood of some people born in the Brahmin family due to their misconduct.

If a Brahmin happens to read this article and he feels that he has committed mistakes, then the only and immediate solution or remedy (Prayaschitham) is to do the next Sandhya Vandanam. When a Brahmin lives within his prescribed manners, naturally the other communities will change their understanding of Brahmins. When a Brahmin conducts silly mistakes due to unavoidable circumstances, such sins can be washed out when he performs next Sandhya Vandanam. This Sandhya Vandanam has so much of power that even the greatest Rishis and Mahapurushaas including God’s incarnations have conducted without fail knowing to its benefits.

Whatever I have described here is in the case of a Vaideeha (Aanthareeka) Brahmanan’s lifestyle. Whereas, whoever-wherever born does not matter, but perform a devoted Ahimsa life and live like a Vaideeha Brahmanan to become a Dhaiveega (Baahika) Brahmanan.

Brahmin-hood is a class of purity (Savarni) among human beings than a mere Jaathi (Caste). Every Avarni (Non-Brahmin) should try to become a Savarni that is what the expectation of Mahathmaas and God! So, let’s try!
