Dear Reader!
Welcome to this page. I have copied my Practical Astrology Class Book (basic) in this blog. Some 15+ years back I use to take the class for creating new astrologers. It started with some 50+ students but after a few weeks, the numbers came down to 15+ and completed the course. As we know, Astrology is not for everyone however, the interest to know is for most of the ones. This is a fundamental note on Astrology. Though there was a good demand to teach advanced astrology, due to some reasons, I could not dedicate myself for that task. I hope this will help the beginners in learning Astrology in a simple way.
I will also give you a pdf link to download, so that you can keep it in your PC and refer as and when you need it.
Here is the PDF link to download the book:

PRACTICAL ASTROLOGY – Class Book
1. Astrology
What is Astrology? Astrology means “Message of the Stars”. It is a divine and noble science to read and
understand the divine plan designed by the Creator of nature. Astrological predictions are totally dependent
on certain principles and accurate precise calculations. We all know that nobody can be 100% accurate
other than the Creator himself.
Therefore, absolute faith in God coupled with thorough knowledge of the
subject will make a person a good Astrologer.
Since Astrology is also a Science, it too has its own limitations.
History of Astrology begins with
creation itself. The great Saint Garga
Muni received and learnt this noble Science from none other than Brahma, that
means it is as old as Vedas (approximately B.C. 5,000 years).
The fundamental basis of
Astrology itself is Karma and reincarnation.
Therefore, Astrology alone can talk about past, present and future of
all beings.
2. Basic
qualities for an Astrologer
To become a good Astrologer, the
student must have some basic qualities. The student must be truthful,
impartial, tactful and witty, sincere and sympathetic, no stage fear, patient
and calm, capable of debating & winning, and should never take advantage of
the natives. Though conversant with
Astronomy and Astrology, the student should be aware of his limitation in the
subject. He should not hide what is observed from the horoscope, but it should
be conveyed diplomatically. Good memory power, absolute faith in God, Astrology
and Karma, worship of Devas, observing fast and penance; and knowledge in
psychology and logic will also help a lot. Read prominent astrological magazines
but would be advisable to follow Krishnamoorthy Padhathy (Nirayana / KP
System).
3. Jyothir / Kaala / Raasi
Chakram / Zodiac
Top of everything rests the “Dhruva Mandalam” controlling the beings
in this Universe. Just below the Dhruva
Mandalam resides the “Nakshatra Mandalam”,
followed by the “Jyothir Mandalam”
(Navagrahaas), again followed by planet Earth.
Please note that Zodiac is in
the form of a Circle i.e. 360°.
4. Divisions of Astrology (Main)
They are six main divisions, as under:
-
1.
Jatakam 3. Golam
5. Muhoortham
2.
Prasnam 4. Nimitham 6. Ganitham
Note: Jatakam and Prasnam methods
are widely applied to find out various events in human life.
A short description of each the division is given below: -
1.
Jatakam / Natal
Horoscope:
It means the story of the
child right from the very moment of its birth, i.e. detachment of the
umbilical cord.
2.
Prasnam:
Result to be answered
based on the query. One important thing
here is that the fate of the consultant and the querent ‘s fortunate time
should match.
3.
Golam:
Conjunction of several
planets in the system, known through Gocharam.
4.
Nimitham / Omen:
Predictions
are offered by observing a moment at the time of omen.
5.
Muhoortham / Electional:
It is an auspicious time,
when Navagrahas are placed in a beneficial or favourable signs/raasis of the
native.
6.
Ganitham:
Astronomical
calculations.
5. Navagrahaas
According to Hindu Astrology
total of 9 planets are considered on account of their direct influence over human
beings. They are:
1.
SUN
2.
MOON
3.
MARS
4.
MERCURY
5.
JUPITER
6.
VENUS
7.
SATURN
8.
RAAHU
9.
KETU
Well
known Sanskrit / Indian names for above Planets are: -
Sun =
Ravi ,
Soorya, Adityan, Bhanu, Diwakaran, Bhaskaran
Moon = Chandra, Indu, Sasi, Soman
Mars = Kujan, Ankarakan, Mangalan, Bhowman
Mercury = Budhan, Sowmyan, Somasutan
Jupiter = Guru, Vyazhan,
Brihaspathy
Venus = Sukran, Bhrigu, Sitan
Saturn = Sani, Mandan
Raahu = Sarpi
Ketu = Sikhi
In addition to the above
planets, one more ‘Gooblin’ planet
(upagraha) is included in the Jyothischakram.
This is known as “Gulikan” or
“Maandi”. This planet will rise and set 2 times in a
day. This is an important planet to be considered during ‘Prasnam’.
6. Raahu / Ketu / Gulikan
All the above three planets are
“Shadowy Planets”. ‘Raahu’ is known as
Dragon’s Head or Ascending Node of the Moon or North Pole of Soorya Sidhantha,
and ‘Ketu’ is known as Dragon’s Tail
or Descending Node of the Moon or South Pole of Soorya Sidhantha.
Though Raahu & Ketu do not
have their own individual qualities, they reflect the qualities of planets with
whom they are placed/conjoined. They do not have their own house in the Raasi Chart,
but they occupy the house of other planets and claim their ownership of that
house. Raahu & Ketu is always
placed opposite to each other (i.e. 180°).
Raahu claims
Mithuna (Gemini) as his Own House, and Ketu
claims Kanya (Virgo), Dhanu (Sagittarius), Makaram (Capricorn), Meena
(Pisces) as his Own Houses.
Raahu is
good/powerful/beneficial, if posited between “Medam through Kanya” and
Ketu is good/powerful/beneficial if posited between “Thula through
Meena”.
7. Ayanams
Utharaayanam:
Sun transits from “Makaram to
Mithunam” which is 6 months. This period
is called Utharaayanam. That means Sun
takes the Northern course and reaches the Northernmost Point in Meena and
comes to due East at the end of Mithuna.
Dakshinaayanam:
Sun transits from “Kadaka to
Dhanus” which is 6 months. This period
is called Dakshinaayana. That means Sun
takes the Southern course and reaches the Southernmost Point at the end of
Thula and comes to due East in Makara.
Note: The beginning of Kadaka & Makara is
called the “equinoctial points” or the equinoxes,
which means that both Day and Night are equal in length). Medam & Thula is called “Vishapath”
8.
Average motion of
Planets:
The average daily motion of Planets, (space marked in Degrees), time
taken by each Planet to cross one Raasi, the maximum number of days of their
retrogradation and stationary stage, etc., are given in the Chart “Average Motion
of Planets”. Please note that
“Stationary” means the time before and after retrograde motion.
9. Raasi Group Head
SUN is in-charge/head of 6 Raasis. They are
“Simha to Makara”.
Therefore these Raasis are called
Soorya
or Agneya Raasikal.
MOON is in-charge/head of 6 Raasis. They are “Kadaka to Kumba”.
Therefore, these reasons are
called Chandra or Soumya Raasikal.
10. Pakshaas - Sukla (Lunar/White)
& Krishna (Solar/Black)
When Moon is nearing the Sun,
i.e. waning, it is called Krishna Paksha.
When Moon is moving away from
the Sun, i.e. waxing, it is called Sukla
Paksha.
When full Moon is seen
throughout the night, it is called Poornima.
When no Moon is sighted in the
night at all, it is called Amavasya.
(This happens because of both the
Moon and the Sunrise and set at the same time).
11. Type of Raasis / Signs
Raasis are denoted depending
upon their qualities. The important ones are: -
Kendra, Thrikona, Satru, Sama,
Mitra, Ojha (Positive), Yugma (Negative), Chara (Movable), Sthira (Fixed),
Ubhaya (Dual), Dik (Zone-N/E/W/S), Pancha Bhooda (Elements), Sheershodaya,
Prishtodaya, Manushya, Mruga, Day, Night, Chathushpaada, Anga (limbs), Roga,
Kroora, Saumya, Bala (Potential), Vibhala (Barren), Apoklima, Upachaya,
Oordwamukha, Thiryangmukha, Adhomukha, Sthri, Purusha.
Some of
the important Raasis.
Kendra Raasis:- From Lagna (i.e. 1 = Ascendant) 1, 4, 7, 10 signs are
called Kendra/Chathushpaada/Kandaka Raasis.
Trikona Raasis : From Lagna (i.e. 1 =
Ascendant) 5, 9 signs.
Panapara Raasis : From Lagna or any
Planet posited therefrom 2, 8, 11 signs.
Apoklima Raasis : From Lagna or any
Planet posited therefrom 3, 6, 12 signs.
Chathurasra Raasis : From Lagna or any
Planet posited therefrom 4, 8 signs.
Leena Raasis: From
Lagna or any Planet posited therefrom 3, 6, 8, 11 signs
Dukha Raasis: From
Lagna or any Planet posited therefore 6, 8, 12 signs.
ShalKona Raasis: From
Lagna or any Planet posited therefrom 6, 12 signs.
Upachaya Raasis: From
Lagna or any Planet posited therefrom 3, 6, 10, 11
signs.
Apachaya Raasis: From
Lagna or any Planet posited therefrom 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8,
9,
12 signs.
Note: When the malefic planets occupy the Kendra position, they produce
benefic results. Likewise, when benefic planets occupy the same position, they
produce malefic result; especially Jupiter and Venus.
13. Benefic (Subha) &
Malefic (Ashubha) Planets
Benefic by nature: MOON, MERCURY,
JUPITER, VENUS
Malefic by nature: SUN, MARS,
SATURN, RAAHU, KETU, GULIKAN
Malefic by occupancy: Some benefic planets become malefic due to
their occupancy.
i) Moon :
When conjoined with Sun or posited in 3, 6, 11th house
OR
lack of
support from both the sides (blank raasis both sides of Moon).
ii) Mercury: When
conjoined with any natural malefic planet OR
posited
in 3, 6, 11th house.
iii) Jupiter & Venus: When posited in 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11th
house.
14. Panchaangam / Almanac
Panchaangam means five angams
(five important principles) of Astrology, which are: -
1.
Thidhi … (12
deg.)
2.
Waaram … (
7 days)
3.
Nakshathram/Stellar (27 nos.)
4.
Yogams … (27
nos.)
5.
Karanas … (11
nos.)
Thidhi: Means 12° space movement of Moon and Sun in the Zodiac.
Waaram: Means a day of 24 hours.
Waarams are named after the 7 planets.
Please
see Chart for the week.
Note: In the English calendar, the day
changes at Zero hours, whereas Hindus reckon their days from Sun Rise to Sun
Rise.
In each day every alternate hour will be ruled by the planet next to
immediate planet in the above-listed order.
Nakshathram:
Means 13°-20’ space movement of planets in
Zodiac. Likewise, there are 27 stars
across 360°, which means 13°-20’ (or 800’) x 27 = 360° (i.e. 21600’). Star of the day marked in the calendar
denotes the position of Moon on that day. Similarly, the position of the Moon can be determined by the name of the star
(approximately).
Yogam:
Means 13°-20’ space movement of
planets in Zodiac. Please note the
results are different from that of stars, even though both are of the same
space duration.
Karanam:
Means 6° space movement of
planets in Zodiac. That means a Thidhi (12°) is divided into 2 Karanams of 6°
each. Name of Karanas is different
according to Paksha, except for Amaavasyaa & Poornima. They are to be selected based on Poorvaardha
(First Half) and Utaraardha (Second Half). The names in Tamil & Malayalam
will differ, as will be observed from the attached Table for Karanam.
15. Samvalsaraas -
There are 5 types of Samvalsaraas, as under: -
1)
Souramaana (Sun based)
2)
Chaandramaana (Moon-based)
3)
Nakshathramaana (Star based)
4)
Bhaarhaspatyamaana (Jupiter based)
5)
Saavanamaana (Solar based - A natural day
from Sun Rise to Sun Set)
Souramaana : (Followed in South India )
The new year begins with the
Sun’s entry (Soorya Sankramam) into a particular
Nirayana Raasi. 60 years are there in one cycle.
Chaandramaana : (Followed in Bengal & West India )
The new year begins based on Thidhi. Such
12 months make 1 Chaandramaana Year.
Bhaarhaspathyamaana : (North India ) :
The new year begins based on
Jupiter’s entry into a particular raasi.
60
years are there in one cycle, like Souramaana.
Nakshathramaana:
Based on Moon’s motion in each
star.
Thus 27 stars X 12 months = 324
days per annum.
Saavanamaana:
One Savana day is Sun Rise to
Sun Rise of the following day, likewise 30 days form a month X 12 = 360 days
per annum. Kali-Din is mentioned in the
calendar. Birthdate of Kali Din is recorded BC Feb 17/18 of 3102.
16.

17.
Shodasa (16) &
Shad (6) Vargas
The Zodiac of 360° is divided
into 12 Raasis of 30°. For the predictive purpose, each raasi of 30° is further
divided into 15 different divisions, out of which the important ones are 6.
1.

Shadvargas
Out of the above 16 divisions (sputa),
planets are said to have six important Varga Balaas. They are:
1.
Raasi (30°) One Raasi in full
2.
Hora (15°) One Raasi divided into two
3.
Drekana (10 °) One Raasi divided into
three
4.
Navaamsa (3° 20’) One
Raasi divided into nine
5.
Dwaadasaamsa (2° 30’) One
Raasi divided into twelve, and
6.
Thrimsaamsa (1°) One Raasi divided into thirty
Raasi :
360° / 12 = 30° each of 12 parts
are called Raasis (Mesha to Meena)
The following Raasi names are
important to understand for further exercise:
Ojha (Odd) / Positive / Male /
Krooram / Day
Mesha, Mithuna, Simha, Thula,
Dhanus, Kumba (1-3-5-7-9-9-11)
Yugma (Even) / Negative / Female
/ Soumyam / Night
Rishabha, Kataka, Kanya,
Vruschika, Makara, Meena (2-4-6-8-10-12)
Hora :
Half = 15° of a raasi. Therefore
there are 2 Horas of 15° each in one Raasi..
Note: The Hora rulership is allotted only between Sun and Moon
Therefore, the names are either Chandra Hora OR Soorya
Hora).
Rule: - MOON predominates EVEN Signs and SUN predominates ODD Signs.
To place the planet under the
Hora System, we need to know the following:-
Even Signs: Moon gets the First part of 15° and Sun gets the Second part of
the 15°.
Odd Signs: Sun gets the First part of 15° and Moon gets the Second part of
15°.
Formula:
Step 1 : Study where the
Planet is posited,
Step
2 : Decide whether the planet
is in ODD or EVEN sign,
Step
3 : Find out the exact degree
of the planet in that raasi,
Step 4
: After considering Odd/Even raasi,
if the planet is within the 1st 15° or 2nd 15°, place it in the
house of the respective ruler-ship lord, i.e. (Sun / Moon).
Drekaana
1/3rd division of a
Raasi i.e. 10° space movement of a planet in Zodiac is called a Drekaana.
Therefore there are 3 Drekaana of 10° equal parts in a Raasi (30°).
Drekaana - Rulership & Lord
Basically, the rulership is
amongst 7 planets, Sun to Saturn. The
rulership of First 10° (Aadhya
Drekaana) ruled by the Natal Raasi lord.
The Second (Madhya Drekaana)
of 10° ruled by the FIFTH raasi lord therefrom and Third (Andhya Drekaana) of 10° ruled by NINTH raasi lord therefrom.
(0°-10°, 10°-20°, 20°-30°)
To place planet under Drekaana
Chart, follow these steps:
1.
Ascertain planet’s longitude
(i.e. in which raasi it is posited, and at what degree?).
2.
Subtract no. of Raasis (30° each) lapsed. You will
find some degrees, minutes and seconds as remainder. Note if this remainder falls within 0°-10° or
10°-20° or 20°-30°.
3.
If the planet is posited between:
0° - 10° = place the planet in the First
Raasi, (Natal Chart),
10°-
20° = place it in the Fifth Raasi therefrom (Natal Chart),
20°-
30° = place it in the Ninth Raasi therefrom (Natal Chart).
Note: Even though the rulership is among the 7 Planets, we still have to mark
all Planets and Lagna in the Drekaana Chart.
Navaamsa :
1/9th division of a
Raasi i.e. 3°-20’ space movement of a planet in Zodiac is called Navaamsa. Therefore, there are 9 Amsaas of 3°-20’ equal
parts in a raasi (30°).
Navaamsa Rulership & Lordship:
The ruler of the Navaamsa is
decided on the basis of Raasi in which the particular amsa (Navaamsa)
falls. That particular raasi lord
becomes the lord of Navaamsa.
To place planets under Navaamsa
Chart, follow these steps:
1.
Ascertain planets longitude in
the Natal Chart,
2.
After subtracting no. of Raasi
lapsed (30° each) you will find the reminder as few degrees and minutes. Compare the value with above table and decide
in which bracket this planet can fall. (i.e. at which Navaamsa this planet is
posited).
3.
Start jumping the Raasis for
the lapsed Navaamsa (every 3°-20’ one raasi to jump) from the Natal Chart
position, then you have to halt at the current Navaamsa number and place the
planet there. This is the Navaamsa
position of that planet.
Rule: While jumping Raasis
remember the following:
All corner signs are ending points of Navaamsa. Therefore, once you reach, 5th
sign therefrom is the starting point of that particular Amsa, for which, keep
on counting till you reach any corner as 1st, 5th or 9th
from any raasi where the planet is posited in the Natal Chart.
Dwaadasaamsa:
1/12th division of a
Raasi i.e. 2°-30’ space movement of a planet in Zodiac is called Dwaadasaamsa.
Therefore, there are 12 Dwaadasaamsa of 2°-30’ equal parts in a Raasi (30°).
Dwaadasaamsa rulership is based
on the distribution @ 2°-30’ per raasi, starting from the raasi in which the
planet is posited in the Natal Chart.
To place planets under
Dwaadasaamasa Chart, follow these steps:
1.
Ascertain planets longitude
from the Natal Chart,
2.
Count lapsed no. of
Dwaadasaamsa @ 2°-30’, you will arrive at a reminder in
degree &
minutes etc. as Current Amsa.
3. Start jumping raasis for the no. of lapsed
Dwaadasaamsa from the position planet was placed in the Natal Chart (@ 2°-30’)
and half the remainder in the next raasi. This is the Dwaadasaamsa position of
that planet.
Trimsaamsa :
1/30th division of a Raasi,
i.e. 1° space movement of a planet in a Zodiac is called Trimsaamsa. Therefore, there are 30 Amsaas of 1° equal
path in a raasi (30°).
Trimsaamsa Rulership & Lordship:
Trimsaamsa Rulership is allotted
amongst FIVE Planets viz.: MARS, SATURN, JUPITER, MERCURY &
VENUS as detailed below :
When
transit When transit
Planets Degree-Shares ODD Signs at EVEN Signs at
MARS 5° 0° to
5° 25° to
30°
SATURN 5° 5° to 10° 20° to
25°
JUPITER 8° 10° to
18° 12° to
20°
MERCURY 7° 18° to 25° 5° to
12°
VENUS 5° 25°
to 30° 0° to
5°
Note: The rulership is in reverse
order in EVEN Sign, with reference to ODD Sign.
To place the planet in the
Trimsaamsa Chart, follow these steps:
1.
Ascertain planet’s longitude in
the Natal Chart.
2.
Subtract lapsed Raasis and find
out at what degree the planet is in transit, which
will enable
you to find out the Trimsaamsa Lord.
3.
Find out whether the planet is posited in the Odd or
Even Sign, because the order of rulership of different planets over each particular
portion of a degree depends on Odd/Even Sign.
4.
If it is Odd, find the house of the Odd Raasi Lord in
the Trimsaamsa chart and place the planet.
5.
If it is Even, find the house of the Even Raasi Lord in
Trimsaamsa Chart and place the planet.
18. Ayanamsa / Precession of Equinoxes
There are 2 types of
Zodiac: 1) Fixed (Stellar/Star basis = SAYANA)
2)
Movable (Raasi basis = NIRAYANA)
Every year when Sun enters
Equinoctial Point (Zero degree-Aries) the duration of day and night will be
equal on that day all over the world. At
the same time, the position of EARTH is less by about 50.1” (Arc-space towards
West) from the fixed point (Star) of the last year, that means Earth has not
completed one circle of 360° fixed Zodiac.
This quantum of difference is accumulated year by year from the initial year is called “AYANAAMSA”.
The exact quantum of difference is
still in dispute among astrologers.
Govt. of India’s ‘Raashtreeya Panchaang’ has notified that the coincidence of both Zodiac and the quantum of Ayanaamsa was on 285 AD (Time) at
50.077” (Arc space movement).
Formula to find out Ayanaamsa is as follows :
1.
For the year we need to know
Ayanamsa/year (-) 285 = No. of years,
2.
That no. of years
X 50.077” = No. of Seconds,
3.
That no. of Seconds ÷ (60 X 60) = No. of Degrees +
remainder
4.
That remainder
X 60’ = No.
of Minutes
For example: Find out 1996 Ayanaamsa? 1996-285 =
1,711
1711
x 50.077 = 85,681.747”
85,681.747” ÷ (60 X 60) = 23.800° .800° X 60 =
48’
\ Ayanaamsa for
1996 is = 23° 48’
19. Aspects
of Planets
All planets will have Dhrusti
(Aspect) on other Raasis from the place where they are posited in the Raasi
Chakram. Please note that in addition to their aspects on 7th Raasi
like other planets, Mars, Jupiter & Saturn have special aspects.

20. Different Basis of Timings Used In
Astrology
There
are 5 types of time normally used in astrological calculations:
1.
Local Mean Time (L.M.T)
2.
Standard Time (S.T) of the respective country.
3.
Sidereal Time (Sid.T)
4.
Advance Time (A.T)
5.
War Time (Advancement).
Lmt/Solar Time/Civil Time
It is the real-time of a place
(Based on this time we need to workout
“Ascendant” of the place) There is a printed table available for quick
reference. For our study purpose, please
learn how to calculate LMT :
Greenwich Meridian Time
(GMT) is taken as Zero. Hence countries
falling towards EAST will be GMT PLUS and countries falling WEST of GMT will be
GMT MINUS. This is because Eastern countries will have earlier Sunrise than
the Western countries). Longitude of the
place is taken for this calculation.
For example Indian Standard Time
(IST) :-
(82° 30’ x 4’ (on the basis of 4’ per degree) = 330’
/ 60’ = 5 Hours 30 Minutes.
Watches show the standard time of
that country, whereas Local Mean Time has to be determined by applying the above
formula.
Indian Standard Time (IST):
IST is exactly 5 Hours 30
Minutes ahead of Greenwich Time, which is at Zero Degree Longitude, whereas, India is 82°-30’ (space) towards
East. That is why it is 5 Hours 30 Minutes plus.
Sidereal Time (Sid.T):
This is an astrological time. One
Sidereal day is 23 Hours 56 Minutes 4.09054 Seconds (not 24 Hours) Mean Solar
Time (shown by our ordinary watch). It
is the time interval between Mesha to Meena Point. (Ready made table is
available at 12 Noon LMT of India based on 82°-30’ East Longitude). But remember, this is an important time for
casting Lagna.
Advance Time :
Due to seasonal changes certain
countries advance/reverse an hour with respect to their standard time. Therefore, if you are casting a
Lagna/Horoscope remember to convert the watch time to the normal standard time
of the country, and then find out the LMT.
War Time (Advancement) :
During the war, affected countries
can advance their clock. Therefore, in
such cases remember to convert the watch time to the normal standard time of
the country, and then find out the LMT.
21. Lagna (Ascendant)
Means the Rising Sign (Raasi) in
the East at a given time. That shows the
rising sign will be very near to the Sun.
From Sunrise to Sunrise approximately 4 Laganas rise at the rate of 6
hours.
Note: Rising signs (Lagna) are already marked in the “Panchaang” (of
course, based on IST). This is also marked in the “Table of Ascendant” (based
on Sidereal Time).
For Lagna calculations, we
must have the following Data.
1.
Date of Birth
2.
Time of Birth (in ST) in case
of other countries convert ST into IST.
3.
Place of Birth with Latitude
& Longitude. (To determine LMT).
Follow this table for
calculation of Lagna:
There is one more easy method
used to find out the (Gross) Lagna.
Formula: Multiply the birth
date by 4 and add the constant figures given for the concerned month. Count the minutes elapsed from previous midnight and the time of birth given
(in LMT) and add them to resultant together.
The sum total of the three steps should be referred to the nearest figure in
the Raasi Table. That will be the rising
sign (Lagna) at the given time of birth.
22. 10th House/Cusp/Meridian Center
The mid-point of 10th
Bhaava is called Meridian
Center . The midpoint of 10th Bhaava is one
and the same for all latitudes for a given time (Sidereal Time). Whereas for other Cusps, the longitudes vary according to latitudes.
Once we arrive at 10th
Cusp, then the 180° opposite to it is the 4th Cusp and from Ascendant
to opposite 180° is 7th Cusp.
In between cusps are to be found out by dividing the gap by 3 based 180°
principle.
23. Lordship over Bhavas
Bhaava rulership is considered
on the basis of mid-point of the particular Cusp. Raasi lord becomes the lord of Bhaava. Even if starting and/or ending of a
Bhaava spread over to the adjacent raasi, still, mid-point raasi
lord is considered for Bhaava rulership of the whole Bhaava.
There are many methods used in
this cusp systems, out of which widely used ones are :
1.
Sripathi Padhadhi/Porphyry’s
Systems (Cuspal points)
2.
Sub-lord Theory/Placidus
3.
Equal Systems - 15° on either
side of raasi.
24. Marking Navagrahaas & Upagrahaas in
The Horoscope
Calculating the Longitude of Planets is called
‘marking Navagrahaas & Upagrahaas in the Horoscope’. For casting a horoscope, we must obtain the
following information.
(1) Date of Birth (2) Time of Birth (3) Place
of Birth (4) Sex
25. Vimshothari Dasa
System
Means one cycle of 9 planets amounting to 120 years as per their
rulership time over stars. This is basically one Purush-Aayus.
Kethu : 7 years, Venus :
20 years, Sun : 6 years, Moon : 10 years, Mars : 7 years, Raahu :
18 years, Jupiter: 16 years, Saturn : 19
years, Mercury : 17 years.
Total = 120 years.
26. Garbhasishtam
The remaining time (in
years/month/days/hours) to be completed by the Planet in that Star while at
birth is called Balance of Dasa or Garbhasishtam. That means some time was
already lost/lapsed during pregnancy time by that concerned Planet.
Which means How to find out
balance of Dasa (Garbha Sishtam) from
birth time.
27. Age of Planets
(The Secret of Human Beings)
A Raasi is 30° space duration
either as OJHA/ODD or YUGMA/EVEN. Both
these Raasis enjoys individual status which influences the planets directly.
Note 1) If a planet falls
within the above said longitude, then we can conclude that the status of that
particular planet is as mentioned above.
Based on this we should give predictions.
2) As the age goes up for the planet lesser the
power to influence good and favourable events in our life.
28. Status
of Planets
All planets have 10 types of status
(except Sun/Moon, who have 8). They are: -
1)
Dheepthan 2) Swasthan 3) Mudhithan 4) Saanthan 5) Shakthan
6) Peedithan 7) Deenan 8) Vikalan 9) Ghaln 10) Bheethan.

* Transgression means planets
overtaking or going beyond their limits set by planetary framework. For example:
Mercury (28°) and Venus (47°) are set to travel within these degrees if they
transgress, they are under the influence of
“Athichaaram/Transgression”.
Normally this type of Athichaaram happens to Mercury & Venus.

30. Ashta
Vargams
Ashtavarga means, based on Natal
Chart planetary position (SUN to SATURN) to find out what extent these planets
will influence in our life as far as good & bad events are concerned. Also, this exercise will denote the
relationship/strength of each planet at a given raasi clearly. This type of casting in a chart form is
called “General Ashtavargam/Samudaaya Ashtavargam” and for Individual Planet,
“Graha Ashtavargam”.
How to prepare Ashtavargam Chart:
Step
1 Make
7 individual raasi charts for (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus &
Saturn) and mark each planets name in it.
Step
2 Start
putting dots from the planets posited in the Natal Chart, at the respective
Raasis as per table.
Step
3 Count
no. of dots accumulated in each raasi and place the total number in another
Chart 8th (Samudaayashta Vargam).
Result The raasi containing
maximum dots (Total No) is more favourable to the native and minimum no. of
dots (Total No) is unfavourable raasi/time.
As far as Samudaaya
Ashtavargam is concerned Raasi gets the prominence. Hence when Sun transit
through a raasi/month containing maximum no. of dots that particular
month/raasi will be more favourable than the others.
Note: Navagrahaas’ share:
For Ashtavarga calculations, Planets
must have the following total dots:
Sun (48) Moon (49) Mars (39)
Mercury (54) Jupiter (56) Venus(52)
Saturn (39) Total: 337.
This Ashtavarga chart
will enable us to decide in which month we should engage ourselves to get
favourable results.
31. Planetary
Conjunction
When two or more planets come
within certain specific distance (Arc) in their respective orbits, they are
said to be in conjunction.
There are 2 segments of conjunction:
Sun
& Moon Other
Planets
Any
planet within 12° near Sun or Moon Any
planet other than Sun & Moon
will
have conjunction with above planets. Within
8° near to each other will have conjunction with each other.
Note: The inherent qualities of the planet will change while conjunction.
Closer the conjunction, greater the effect and mutual transformation
intensify there.

32. What makes a
Planet to modify
it's Quality
All planets have their own
inherent qualities. These qualities are modified
by virtue of their placement in certain Bhavas. Aspects from other planets are also
influencing factors for modification.
33. What
is Signification?
Signification means
representation. A Planet, by having a link with another planet, becomes eligible
for the representation of that planet.
The Five-Fold
Theory of Signification
:
1.
Strongest:
When planets are in their own Star while
occupation in a Raasi.
2.
Stronger:
When a Planet in their own
Raasi/Sign/House/Bhaava
3. Strong:
Planet/s in the Star Lord’s own
Raasi/Sign/House (during the occupation)
4.
Less in Strength:
The Bhaava lord (in their Own Raasi)
5.
Least in Strength:
Plant/s in conjunction with OR aspected
by anyone of the planet.
Event
(Cause) and Effect
(Result):
Sub Lord is the indicator of
Event/s attributed to the Bhaava concerned. If the Sub Lord is not the
significator by whatsoever relations of that Bhaava, such event/s attributed to
that Bhaava Lord concerned will not materialize. Therefore, the event is indicated by the
Sub-Lord OR Kaaraka Lord.
34. Maaraka
& Baadhaka Lords:
Maaraka lords are
representatives of Death/Destruction.
In all birth charts 2nd,
7th and 12th signs from Lagna are Maarakastaanas.
BAADHAKA lord is representative of damages.
Bhaadaka lord will change depend upon Lagna. The Baadhakasthaana is
fixed as follows :
If Chara/Movable Raasi is Lagna, then the 11th
Raasi Lord becomes the “Bhaadaka Lord”
If Sthira/Fixed Raasi is Lagna, then the 9th
Raasi Lord becomes the “Bhaadaka Lord”
If Ubhaya/Dual Raasi is Lagna,
then the 7th Raasi Lord becomes the “Bhaadaka Lord”

Depends upon where the planet is
posited. Planets have their good positional strength if they are posited
within these 1 to 5 categories: 1)

Even if a planet is posited in
Neecha or Satru raasi, if it is in retrogradation,
it will derive power to do good.
Planet’s Moudyam / Blemishes :
When the planet/s near the Sun,
they start losing their power, such a state is called “Moudyam”. It happens when the Moon is within 12° distance;

Saturn within 15° to Sun.

Important Notes For
Prediction:
1. An event must be indicated in the birth
chart, otherwise, an event never gets fructified.
2. Planets normally produce the result
during either their own Dasa or
Apahaara or Anthara or Sookshma or Praana. But all these
depend upon the link between Kaaraka/Sub-Lord and Bhaava concerned.
3. Three important points to remember:
1) Indication of event. 2) Period of the event indicating by Planets or the linking
Planets. 3) Transitory agreement of those linked Planets.
4. Moon is very powerful during Krishna
Navami (B-9) to Sukla Panchami (W-5) rest of the days are weak.
5. Any natural malefic planet/s become
“Lagnaadhipa” (lord of Ascendant) they contribute a lot of benefits to the native
than malefic effects.
6. When malefic planet/s are occupied
Kendra position (1-4-7-10) they produce benefits and favourable to the native
concerned.
7. Generally, malefic occupying any house
(without benefic planet’s aspect) will affect that part of the body ruled by
the particular house.
8. When 6th house dominates in
a female horoscope she will be a powerful person.
9. Please note no House or Bhaava is
unfortunate or evil unless it is afflicted.
